Sonnet 18

Sonnet 18
for satb voices and piano

This work is dedicated to the composer’s partner, Connor. Representing a culmination of the composer’s undergraduate studies in music, this work seeks to explore Shakespeare’s beloved text with inspiration drawn from historians’ propositions that Shakespeare may have been a gay man. Though the composer has no interest in outing closeted historical figures, the possibility that one of those figures might embody a relatable life experience not often expressed publicly at that time is inspiration enough.
